YOUTH PROGRAMS

YMCA Youth Programs foster positive relationships and nurture development. Access art, cheerleading, gymnastics, dance, and more at the Y. Offerings vary based on branch and season, so be sure to check the schedule to see our current and upcoming classes.

Arts & Crafts-Mansfield Branch

This 5-week class will give kids quality opportunities to work with experienced art instructors and students. The club will focus on working on a variety of projects, such as finger paints, play dough, crafts, and more! Ages 5-11

International Kids Club-Mansfield Branch

Children ages 5-12 will come together for 5 weeks to learn about different countries around the world.

They will learn about geography, different languages, fun facts, and even try international cuisines!

Varies per branch location. Program is currently not open for registration.

Ocean Club-Shelby Branch

An exciting and educational 5-week program for Grades 4th-8th to learn about the ocean. Each week will have a fun experiment in which each child will participate and learn something new.

Dance

Dance classes at the Y are a wonderful experience for kids. They include ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, contemporary, creative movement, and our Chance to Dance classes for those with special needs.

Mansfield Branch 2024 Dance Program: 

Creative Movement (Ages 3-4), Intro to Dance (Ages 4-6), Pre-Ballet I (Ages 3-6), Pre-Ballet II (Ages 6-8), Ballet I (Ages 8-18), Ballet Technique (Ages 8-18), Pre-Tap/Modern-Jazz (Ages 6-8), Tap/Hip-Hop (Ages 8-18), Celtic Tap (Ages 8-18), Acrobatics (Ages 6-18), and Chance To Dance (Under 18)

Zumbini-Mansfield Branch

Zumbini is a unique, effective, and fun early childhood education program that uses the power of music and movement to promote cognitive, social, emotional, and motor skill development, all while promoting a strong bond between caregiver and child. Ages 0-4 and their caregiver. 10-week Class.

Mommy/Daddy & Me-Mansfield Branch

This creative movement 5-week class will be filled with music, movement, dance (ballet and jazz), props, games, obstacle courses, and more! Ages 2-3 and their caregiver.

Gymnastics/Tumbling

Gymnastics is a complex competition involving the performance of exercises requiring physical strength, flexibility, power, agility, coordination, grace, and control. The YMCA of North Central Ohio gymnastics and tumbling programs embrace the Y's mission by creating a safe, nurturing environment for kids to become strong, confident gymnasts.

Tumbling-Grades 4-12

Gymnastics- Tumble Buddies 1 (Ages 2-4), Tumble Buddies 2 (Ages 5+), Tiny Tumblers (Ages 3-5), Beginner (Ages 6+), Intermediate (Ages 7+) Advanced (Try-Outs Mandatory), Pre-Team (Try-Outs Mandatory) and  Competitive Team-Tumbling Stars (Try-Outs Mandatory)

Sneaky Ninja-Mansfield Branch

Inspired by gymnastics, martial arts, obstacle training, and freestyle movement. Ninjas will JUMP, CLIMB, SWING, and ROLL through obstacles. Children will advance and learn at their own pace.

For children ages 4-5 and 6-7.

Cheerleading

Cheerleading will build self-confidence and self-esteem while developing social skills and healthy children. At the Y, we are devoted to strengthening our youth's spirit, mind, and body. 

Cheerleading-Shelby Branch

Practice Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays

Times: K-4th from 5:00 pm-5:45 pm & 5th-8th from 5:30 pm-6:30 pm

Cost: $50 costume fee

Recurring Monthly Fee: 

Members $25 and Non-members $55

Registration: March 8-31

Program Begins: April 4th

Cheerleading-Mansfield Branch

Times: 9:00 am practice on Saturdays

Ages: 4-12

Cost: Members $40 and Non-members $60 (T-shirt included)

Registration: March 18-April 14

Program Duration: April 27-May 25

Martial Arts Program-Mansfield Branch

Martial arts contributes to increased physical strength, flexibility, balance, control, discipline, and spirituality. Students train with others at their own skill level, progressing from basic stances, punches, blocks, and kicks to the study of more advanced patterns of movement and defense objectives. This program will overlay traditional karate with a combative system of kickboxing. 

 

The school is open to the whole family, including adults. Classes are offered year-round at a monthly rate.

2024 Program Session Dates

  • Are meals provided?
    Yes. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided. We do not allow outside food unless there is a medical reason.
  • Does Child Care ever close? What about weather?
    Our sites close based on the YMCA closure schedule and two professional development days each year. WMFD.com and the ProCare app will alert you of all closures.
  • What does the Step Up To Quality star rating mean?
    Step Up To Quality (SUTQ) is a five-star quality rating and improvement system administered by the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. SUTQ recognizes and promotes learning and development programs that meet quality program standards that exceed preschool licensing and school age child care licensing health and safety regulations. Step Up To Quality program standards are based on national research identifying standards which lead to improved outcomes for children.
  • Are the Child Care providers certified?
    Yes, all employees have a thorough background check, CPR, first aid, communicable disease training, child abuse training, and many more continuing education courses.
  • Is there a discount if we have two children in your program?
    YES,
  • Is there a curriculum?
    Yes, our staff gets planning time similar to a school system. Each classroom has lesson plans each day to enhance social, emotional, and educational learning.
